Cranky Pants

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

For the past few days, I’ve been doing three puzzles (not at the same time) because I still hadn’t finished some new ones from Christmas, and Mam gave me a new one the last time I saw her. The one we’re working on now is one we must’ve gotten at a yard sale, since it had a price sticker on it and pieces are missing. I don’t know when we bought it, but probably when we lived at the old house.

On Sunday, my parents took the van they rented the day before and drove to Saint John to pick up some of Little Grampy’s things, and now our house is overflowing with more mugs and glasses and all sorts of things. I got a pair of binoculars (?) and I’ve enjoyed looking at the night sky with them and watching a few birds that have popped up recently. I made Brown Sugar Pound Cake last night, and today I’m making an apple pie  for the clubhouse so it can be auctioned off.

This morning, Mom and Dad had a conversation where my father mentioned he didn’t go to bed in a good mood, and one of them said he wore ‘cranky pants,’ to which I replied that I hoped he would be wearing a different pair of pants today – or I think so. It was something along those lines.  The weather is now turning very warm lately, but it did snow briefly yesterday. I’m writing a bit of my story today, too.

The first day of spring

We went out this afternoon, and my mother bought me a shirt from a thrift store, which is a very bright color but my family says it suits me. It does, but I couldn’t get lost in it if I tried. The color reminds me of the reddish part on peaches somewhat — or maybe I’m thinking of nectarines. It’s something like that. We also got the groceries as well, so there’s plenty of food around now, and I wrote down a few words I wanted to remember in that list of mine (did I mention that before?). Yesterday it was 10 degrees outside, only I forgot to go outside and enjoy it. Today’s weather wasn’t as warm, but at least it was sunny: last year, it snowed on the first day of spring. However, that year we had gotten an unusually large amount of snowfall throughout the winter, so it wasn’t completely surprising. This year there has been much less snow.

Yesterday, we went to Saint John (and back) because my great-grandfather passed away last Sunday, so we held a little gathering for him because he didn’t want a funeral. I was able to see my grandmother and Carl, my other great-grandparents Papa Daly and Nanny Daly, my mother’s aunt Tammy (who is the same age as my mom, I think) and her little son, Aunt Glenda and Grampy Adrian (my mother’s father), and all sorts of other people – mostly ones I didn’t know or couldn’t remember. I thought Addison would go, but he may have been busy. We also now have Paddington Bear with us, and those hollow wooden dolls that have a series of smaller ones underneath (I forget the name) when you open them. You can read more at:

With other things, we went shopping on Friday and I bought a couple of things at a thrift store. I’m still hemming the pair of pants, and I finished one leg this morning. I made Toblerone Fudge on Friday, too, which I think is the best fudge I’ve ever tasted. Perhaps I’ll post the recipe later. For now, I would like to go try writing.

Chicago

. . . is where my mom is going tomorrow for a conference. She’ll be back by Sunday or Monday. Last night I was talking to her and suggested that since she frequently declares she’s going deaf, I could buy her a book on how to read lips, so I wouldn’t need to repeat myself so often. She laughed at me, because I was only joking in the same sort of way my dad pokes fun at her. When I asked her if she told him later, she said she did and that he laughed and looked proud.

Since yesterday, I’ve been re-reading some books I own that I haven’t read for some time. I think the last time I did was around Easter in 2007, because I was eating Easter Kissables at the time. I’ve been doing some word-collecting (I see a word I may use and write it down on a list) and some story planning. Oh, Sarah is back — that means I should get off the computer for her.
